|Minister's Letter - May 2018|
|Rev Peter Cornick|
|On 5th-6th May, we are celebrating 60 years since the Youth Club was affiliated to the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs – MAYC.
Saturday 5th May will see present and former members joining together for a reunion tea, followed by a ‘Club evening’, complete with table tennis, snooker, chat and a ‘middlelog’ (that’s the God bit!), along with a BBQ. Members of the Church who didn’t actually go to this Youth Club or lead it, are encouraged to come along to any of the events to support and look at the display of photos and memorabilia. We are all part of the story of the Youth Club over 60 years – and witnesses to God’s blessing on its work.
Sunday 6th May will set the celebration in worship, with testimony from across the decades, and hymns and songs chosen by former leaders. A former member, Rev Tim Morris, will be preaching. It will be a time to thank God for the Youth Club, past and present, and its influence on young people.
As Youth Club members look back through green and yellow tinted spectacles, I hope they will pause to give thanks to God for the influence of the Youth Club on their lives; for those who gave of their time to lead and for friendships made.
The Youth Club has been there if life has been tough at school or home, or if it has been hard to mix and make friends. It has offered support and somebody who would listen; a safe place to meet, to grow and encounter the good news of Jesus. As we give thanks for the past, we pray too for the present; that God may richly bless the current young people and leaders of Youth Club.
