At the recent ‘Gift Day’, ‘Celebrating Community Outreach’, many of you came to bring your gifts, some making a special effort to be there. Everyone’s presence was much appreciated. The excellent prayer stations enabled us to pray, in an informed way, for the community outreach our church is involved with. To date, the total raised, inclusive of gift aid, is:
£17,225
This represents an act of generous giving on behalf of the whole church family. On behalf of the Church, I want to thank you sincerely for your gift. It is not possible to write a letter of thanks to everyone as a large proportion of the gifts were anonymous. Please accept this letter as my appreciation. I know that some of you, for various reasons, were not in a position to make a gift at this time but supported with prayer; I want to thank you too.
What is community outreach? The Methodist Church notes four areas of mission; Worship, Evangelism, Learning and Caring, and Service. Community outreach comes under … all four areas! Schools work, care for elderly friends in the Shoppers’ Service, Street Pastors, the ‘Come to the Table’ mission, parenting courses, pastoral visiting, the Coffee Room and the charitable giving of 10% of our weekly offering to good causes, are but a few examples of community outreach. Which areas do you think each of these activities falls under? Whilst volunteers offer tremendous gifts, the cost of staff, buildings and resources to enable mission is high. Your gift has helped towards the ongoing work of the Church in celebrating community outreach.
Paul, writing to the Corinthians, invites them to give generously to his appeal for the impoverished Christians in Jerusalem. Your generous giving, he writes, will produce abundant blessing from God.
God, who supplies seed for the sower and bread to eat, will also supply you with all the seed you need and will make it grow and produce a rich harvest from your generosity. (2 Corinthians 9: 10)
Thank you again for your generous giving and may God produce a rich harvest from your generosity. |
