Prayer and Vision
Boats made of cloth, a lighthouse, the sound of the ocean, invited us to ask: in which direction is the Church sailing? Where am I in the boat? Where is God? It was moving to watch people engaging with the visual images, the sounds, the readings; simply praying. The Prayer Day captured people’s imagination and gave space for God’s word to whisper.
Stories about building this Church, its later extensions and mission, reminded us of previous visions. Opportunities to reflect on how this Church attracts us, changes our relationship with God and helps us share our faith, were designed to inform our future. All were a part of our Vision Day.
May I thank those who put in so many hours to prepare both days and everyone who participated. The many ‘post it notes’, ‘doves’ and the thoughts submitted during Advent, have been collated. The task is both discovering recurring themes, which will lead us to a vision and sifting common ‘actions’ to initiate. A small group established by the Church Council are active in both areas. We would hope to bring some findings from all YOUR contributions to the Annual Church Meeting, and offer a provisional direction on a ‘vision’. There are areas to work on, but I am encouraged by the many comments celebrating the fellowship, friendship, worship, teaching, spirituality and community involvement of the Church. Much to celebrate with thankfulness to God: much to consider in prayer.
Our mission is the same; our vision is emerging. Integral to this process, is the establishment of four Action Teams: Worship, Service, Learning and Caring, and Evangelism. Do speak to me or a Steward if you would like to be involved. To make the ‘reflections’ from the Prayer and Vision Days a reality, these teams need YOU! |
