Summer time! Time to take things easy for a while … unless you are a serving grand-parent. Schools are on holiday, and so teachers have time for renewal, while parents are able to enjoy special time with their children. Yes it’s summer time, and the sun is shining through the rain clouds, and the church meetings are put on hold until September. There’s time for some to take a breather.Remember the verse from Matthew chapter 11: “… Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest’”. Rest is a necessity. If we don’t take time to rest in a very busy life then we will be in danger of physical or emotional collapse. Rest can have very positive results in our lives, but it is not always easy to achieve. If you are the type of person who, on coming across a problem, has to deal with it immediately or else it will worry away at you, then you are not alone. It’s quite common. We want a “quick fix”. However, have you noticed that if you just step back a bit and take time to see the clearer picture, take the time to pray about the situation, then – and most importantly – take time to let God do his part in the situation, then problems which seemed insurmountable often become smaller? When God works in a situation, mountains become molehills. It’s a pity that most of us forget to put God into the situation first; we try to solve things on our own, forgetting that God/Jesus is sitting alongside us resting his chin in his hand and wondering when we are going to ask for his opinion, his help. During summer let’s find time to rest and “let us pray”. |
